Do you want to keep your monthly premium cost low with Medical AND Drug Coverage all in one plan? If so, Medicare Advantage Plans are the way you want to get your Medicare benefits.
But the trade-off for low monthly cost is “copays” as you go to the doctor, hospital, ER, lab, etc. Not a bad thing, but you will have higher out-of-pocket cost when you go to the doctor with Medicare Advantage than with the other option, Medicare Supplement.
To see Medicare Advantage vs. Medicare Supplement side-by-side check out Medicare Comparison.
With Medicare Advantage you need to know what those co-pays will be for each Medical setting (i.e. doctor’s office, outpatient surgery, inpatient surgery, etc.). These co-pays vary by insurance company and the county that you live in. Please see below for a “ballpark” figure of Medicare Advantage Plans co-pays:

Many people assume their doctor is in their plan's network. Never assume! Primary Care doctors, specialist doctors, and hospitals may choose the insurance companies they want to work with. Don't rely on the doctors to know insurance networks.
Look up your doctor directly with the Medicare Insurance company. You can do this yourself by going to the plan's website or the better option is to contact us. We can quickly and accurately look up doctors. This is one of the most important factors when choosing Medicare Advantage Plans. Slow down, get it right the first time! Give us a call or use the Contact Us page.
Dental: A $1000 to $2000 annual max of benefits or a $2,000 reimbursement is now customary with Medicare Advantage. Usually one or the other. With that said, dental insurance does not go very far, but it helps!
Vision: $100-$250 allowance is typical
Hearing Aids: Your co-pay of $1000 per ear will get you a nice pair of hearing aids valued much higher than $1000.
SilverSneakers: Most Medicare Advantage Plans include SilverSneakers which gives you full access to many gyms like LA Fitness, Gold's Gym, Anytime Fitness, and many more.
Another factor that now should weigh into your decision making are the new Medicare Advantage "Give Back" plans. Officially called Part B Reduction Plans, they are $0 monthly premium plans that also give back a portion of your Medicare Part B Premium. In the Atlanta, GA area for plan year 2023 that is usually $70-$100 per month that the insurance companies will pay of your Part B Premium.
